Mixed methods research in service-learning: an integrative systematic review

Abstract In view of the challenges involved in designing a study Mixed Methods (MM), as well problematics inherent studying Service-Learning (S-L) from new research perspectives, and considering lack systematic reviews MM S-L, this proposes to analyse use evaluate S-L through integrative review scientific papers published international databases (ERIC, DIALNET, SCOPUS, Web Science) using terms ‘mixed methods research’ ‘service-learning’. The contextual methodological variables were analysed descriptively inferentially Excel Stata programs. Moreover, 149 predefined codes created qualitative program Atlas.ti identify which associated with methodology used most frequently relation for methodology, how why they used. Of 192 found, only 93 met inclusion criteria. results show that very few investigations specify sufficient detail. Only 28% provide information estimate effect size, suggest interventions based on collect measures post-intervention evaluation. This demonstrates relationship between stages are not complemented design. demonstrated researchers should continue working integration quantitative results. can be guide professionals academics who want investigate because it identifies deficiencies strengths offers alternative designs service.
